you have packed a lot into this message. will try to answer by the numbers.
1) very unusual to crack a bracket. must have been some wind storm.
2) the 3214-00 bracket assy. should perform to your expectations. please make sure you install correctly, proper springs and tension are important.
3) the 3200A tailwheel has PMA for use on cessna models 305A, 305B, 305D, 305E and 305F. any other application would need a 337 filed. there are probably STC'S out in the field. you would have to do a web search to find them as we have no records of field approvals.
4) we are aware that there are numerous 170"s flying with the model 3200-00 tail wheel. again, you would have to do an STC search. also, other 170 "drivers" would have a more valued opinion than mine.
5) we do not offer a 10 in. wheel on the 3200 series. you would have to consider the 3450 series. we do not have an aftermarket fork to convert to a 10 in. wheel. someone may offer one, but we do not.
lance, i have attached both the catalog sheet for the tailwheels and a small data pkg. which should assist you with any repair or trouble shooting of our assys.

I belong to the International Cessna 170 Association and read that you could be contacted for information on the Scott model 3200 tailwheel. I overhauled my Scott tailwheel swivel mechanism, and was happy with the results. But a good wind storm cracked the upper bracket ass'y. Now with all the other worn parts, wheel hubs and fork ass'y I have chosen to go with a new model 3200 tailwheel. I read where the material for the arm ass'y p/n 3214 has been changed and a lot of people with 170's have been having these bend, and are changing to the model 3200A. Is the 3200A approved for 170's? Is a model 3200 going to hold up in your opinion? Also I have read where a lot of 170's have 10" wheels on them. My 52 Cessna 170B has been modified with 180 main gear, that makes it sit higher in the front. Since I'm going to bite the bullet for a new tailwheel I would like to go with a 10" wheel on the model 3200 to bring the tail up a little bit. I think the early Cessna 180's had it as an option. I am an A&P I/A and I am also in the process of installing a Lyc O-360 with a constant speed prop on my 170B. I first talked to my FAA rep about going with a 10" after market fork on my Scott 3200, He wasn't very agreeable to that idea. Then I read where Scott offers one in that configuration but I don't know the p/n. Also do you know of any Scott approval or if I go back for a field approval could you help in anyway with the approval for his configuration on a Cessna 170B. I know a lot of us are changing to larger tires and would opt for a 10" tailwheel if it was approved.
