Securing Door panels with snaps

In leu of the United Carr fasteners that are hard to come by:
Has anyone ever thought of using upholstery snaps to secure the door panels?
The two piece ones have a strong rivet attachment (like the baggage compartment liner) and the other piece could be attached to the door with a tinnerman.
They'd be under the upholstery and be invisible.
You could also use them on the front panels along the door jamb.
