Question for the group: We are in the middle of rebuilding stock Cessna 170 control wheels and have had the tubes re-chromed and the yokes powder coated. As part of this process, we had to drill out the original rivets connecting the yokes to the tubes. Does anyone have a source for replacement rivets? They are solid through most of the rivet and then hollow at the end to allow flaring. Thanks!

If I remember correctly the correct lengths are expensive. I ordered longer from Preferred Air Parts NOS and cut them down. Measure the hole in the end and duplicate it after cutting to proper length. I have the proper dies for setting if you need them.

Mike—thanks so much. The sourcing information was exactly what we needed. Do the dies function as part of the process of flaring the rivet end?

Exactly, they roll the end over. If you want to borrow them let me know thru a pm with shipping address. I will get them out to you. I would suggest at least ordering one extra rivet.

I believe the problem with using MS screws is that they will be a loose fit without an additional sleeve. A -3 screw has a dia. of .1895". The original rivet has a dia. of .219" See this discussion on the 120-140 website.

You can drill it out and use a -4 screw or bolt.
