If that is what I think you mean... it was a chromed plaque which was mounted directly on the instrument panel (in VFR equipped aircraft) and on the glove box door (in IFR equipped.) It is held in place by simple tinnerman nuts on the aft side. There have been several requests over the years for this item.

Reproduction plaques are usually bare brass. (You can have them chromed, however it may require copper plating then chrome plating.)

It is possible the later emblems where not chromed or painted.

Well answered my own question. If you look carefully at the picture of the '55 I have in our documents you can see the logo behind the yoke enough to tell it is chrome and the bird is black.

I looked at the '56 panel I have pictures of and it doesn't have the emblem though it could have been removed for avionics.

Which reminds me I have a bunch of pictures of Dillion Barons '54 I need to post in our library.

Aryana wrote:That airplane looks like it has two altimeters, one left of the pilot's yoke and one to the right...strange.
Maybe this 170 tows gliders and has one altimeter set to QFE, or perhaps it used to belong to American Airlines as they used to set their altimeters to QFE and had a separate third altimeter set to QNH.

Thanks
I guess I was too busy looking outside to notice the light. The horn works though.

I wonder about that black bird. I thought all were originally chromed. I wonder if both pics in this thread are actually the same bird.
Anyone else have a chrome/black emblem?

addendum: Looking over all the sales brochures and pics I can find, the Cessna and Bird all appear the same color (apparently silver/chrome)

A-HA! The one with the black bird is a plastic emblem.

The earlier ones were metal.
