New to the 170 community/ new to the Association, recently purchased a 170A. Looking to replace the carpet. When I went to a local upholsterer/ carpet shop, the 1st question was: "Does it need to be flame-retardant?" "Good question, I dunno!" Any help with ideas on replacing said carpet??

Welcome to the 'site'. how are you enjoying your bird?
short answer to your question, yes, it should be. have you pulled the old out yet?
you could try these guys...

I ended up using a rubberized floor instead of carpet. fits my use a bit better and is fire rated for aircraft use.

Another carpet option
https://www.scs-interiors.com/cessna-17 ... t.htmlThis company also offers precut rubber flooring, I talked them and they will do half and half if you like, rubber in front carpet in the rear.

Good move in changing your carpet. The new one will be lighter and look better , plus it will kill some of the sound . My old carpet weighted in over 11 lbs and had ground in dirt , oil, pizza and other things . New carpet weighted a little less and made it look great . Just do not get pink ,it clashes with every thing else . Plus a blue carpet looks good even on a red aircraft .

The fire rating and the wording and testing requirements of the regulations have changed from very little fire resistance to much more today. However your 170, flown under part 91, only has to meet the requirements it was certified under. You should also know there are few people schooled in the subject of fire ratings then and now who truly understand it. We know that if it meets today's standard it meets the required standard of old 3 fold.
Here is the bottom line for most of us. I do not want to be trapped in a burning airplane sucking the fumes from a carpet or anything else. So while I might be able to get away with Joe's carpet remnants, I wouldn't do it.

I wonder...would a green carpet help you fly faster or is it red???

Lean and green,
fastest seen.
If you go with red,
you won't come out ahead.

Thanks for all the replies, gives me something to work with. The Airtexinteriors looks like a good one.
As far as enjoying the bird...so far have enjoyed working on it to get it back in the air...hasn't flown in 15 years. Hopefully, in a month or 2, that will change.

Wean from green,
It's far-aft seen....
If you go with red,
you'll be way ahead.

You'll be farther ahead,
if you forget about red.
Green is clean,
it's most serene,
the fastest to be seen,

Got the airtexinterior carpet. Will install soon. Liked it so much I went ahead and ordered all new interior from them. (Well ,everything except new seat upholstery- that was still servicable.)
