Anybody running 800 tires with awb 2500 skis? I have Goodyear 8.50 x 6 and they will not work with the skis, the riggers hit the sidewall when skis are down, I need to order some 800's but don't know if the goodyears will be narrow enough. Does anybody have measurement of some different brand tires to compare, I know the 8.50's vary quite a bit between brands as do the 8.00's. I'm looking for the narrowest and tallest option. Thanks for any info.

I'm trying to remember, are the rigger arms flat or do they have a slight bend in them? If they are bent, maybe they are on the wrong sides? The reason I'm asking is because I had a set of AWB-2500s on a Super Cub with the old 26-10x6 baby AIrstreaks and the riggers did not touch those fat tires.

I used to run 700-6 tires with the skis. But many of years ago after seeing a lot of planes with 8.50-6 tires used with the AWB 2500s I figured how to change the rigging slightly and have been using the 8.50s since. If you take a little time and study your rigging and do a little experimenting you probably can find the right combination to make the tires you have work. Seems like when I adjusted the skis to the proper toe in I gained the needed space and better handling on the snow.

Bill Buchanan, WABUCHANAN, has a brand new pair of 8x6 tires he is looking to sell. I'll let him know you are looking for tires.

Thanks for the info, I've done all I could with adjustments and still can't quite make it. I shimmed the skis on the axles a little bit to gain some room, played with the rigger mounts and anything else I could see, I think if I didn't have the goodyears I would be fine. I only need about another 1/4" to clear the tires, found a new set of 8.00s I'll try, I have 26"s for the summer so I really don't need the 8.50s. Hopefully I don't lose too much height.

I've got 8:00x6 on mine and they fit fine. I'm not sure of the brand.

I went down to Lake Hood at Anchorage today and found a C170 with AWB-2500 skis to see how they are installed and what the tire/rigger clearance is. The one I found has McCreary 8.00-6 tires. There is substantial clearance between the tire and rigger.
The rigger arm does indeed have a slight but significant offset that has to be mounted on the correct side or the tire/rigger clearance will not be correct. The bend should be toward the inboard side which locates the rigger slightly more inboard of the tire.
Also, the rigger arm has spacers that are required to be in place for correct rigger/tire clearance.
If either the rigger arms or the spacers are not installed incorrectly, the tires could rub on the riggers.
However, with that said, re-reading the original post indicates the rigger/tire clearance in question closes up when the skis are down, not up. It really is not a problem for there to be little or no clearance when the skis are down as the tires do not rotate with the skis down and if they rub it's not good but really does not hurt anything. Like you are trying to do, if it was my plane I would find out why the tires rub on the riggers and fix it.

Just got back from the shop. I am starting the installation of AWB2500s. My 8:50 by 6 will not work properly . Can not make them clear. Pretty much to late for this year but will be looking for smaller tire/rims for next winter. While I am at it I am taking out useless ADFs, ashtrays, hat racks and shag carpet. Found a small mouse nest and old PTT in belly so far. Also have an instrument no one is sure of use. Might be a direction finder/homer/adf.
