The International Cessna^® 170 Association

Folks. Recently purchased 170b ser#27101 that had been over run with mice in the headliner and wings. Removed all nests but now have to deal with the droppings throughout the wings and the cleanup of the cabin. Any suggestions on best methods and products to use against residue and smell? Also best and or easiest means of dealing with resulting hard to reach corrosion in some areas. Thanks

For the wings, I'd start with a garden hose and flood as much as you can reach. Dilution is the goal, if not completely flushing things out.
Anything that might neutralize the urine may also attack the aluminum.
Maybe a good spray with ACF-50 would help.

If you haven't already, I'd remove the headliner to make 100% certain it's all out of there.

Thanks for joining the association and thanks for your participation on the forums. As David already mentioned likely your headliner has been deposited into the garbage so you should be able to see the main nesting areas, specifically above the top door frames and the speaker support. If you can post pictures (not exactly easy here, if you need help send me an email) we might have an idea as to the severity of your problem.
Unfortunately, corrosion of this nature (nest areas) often requires part replacement. Mice ; Their front door, the tail cone and all the hallways will obviously need cleaning. This might be a big project, which you can do but depends on specifics as to whether it's a quick fix.

Congratulations on your new purchase and thanks for joining the association! Hopefully the mouse problems will be easy to correct and you'll be enjoying your new 170 soon.

Vacuum out the wings as good as possible and all areas that can be reached with a vacuum hose before trying to wash out the rest with a water hose. Removing as many of the droppings as possible while dry is the idea.

There is a product called Nature's Miracle available at PetSmart or possibly other retail pet stores that is a water based enzyme which removes urine and feces smells from carpet, upholstery, cloth, foam rubber seat cushion material, etc. Get the gallon size and a spray bottle.

It works very well but may require four or more treatments to completely get rid of the smell depending on how bad it is. Completely soak the area and just let it dry naturally. Repeat until the smell is gone. The enzyme does all the work. When the smell is gone, you can then clean the area with a normal disinfectant cleaner.

Once clean and dry, the ACF-50, Boeshield T9 (http://boeshield.com/general-use/), or CorrosionX treatment is a good idea.
