Needed: Drawings for Instrument Panel

Post by Penneyh »

We are in the middle of rebuilding our 1950 Cessna 170A instrument panel. During the late 1970s someone decided to modernize it…which required cutting out large sections of the original panel; the original overlays have since been lost. We’ve sourced an original top center overlay and the right-hand glove box overlay. Does anyone have a left-hand overlay that they’d be willing to trace and provide basic measurements so we could have a baseline in trying to create a replica part? Any pictures for attach points would be helpful as well; we're trying to go back to a more vintage look. Also happy to purchase an original if anyone has a spare. Thanks!

Did you find the glove box door with that side panel. If so your doing well as most of them are looooong gone.

Not sure if you've seen the IPC but at you can see from the illustration the left and right side panels are essentially mirror images of themselves. The 2-1/4" hole top the radio is optional. both sides are held in place with simple L brackets (#90) with tinnermans and a screw. The brackets are riveted to the instrument panel and they are all the same. Note the spacer (#77) that goes between the bracket and the panel at the bottom corners.
