Clean the area between the zerk and the bolt. There's often a data plate riveted there. While you're at it, clean the whole thing!

A very dirty Scott 3200 Tail wheel with a brand new tire. I will bet he landed on a dirt strip and blew the tire and it had to be replaced. Installed the new tire but did not clean it? I would have to smell the grease to be sure.

OK, cool, we have redefined grungy. I thought mine was grungy. My tailwheel is now "pretty clean." Thanks.

Be careful flying that airplane after properly cleaning that tail wheel. Your center of gravity may well have changed.

Is that a major or a minor alteration?

falco,
I think it'd be a simple log book entry, but I bet the tail will come up quicker on take off.

Nippaero, after you clean it up, look at it very closely. SInce the aircraft is new to you, it is advised to look for someone elses headache.

Finally got back around to posting a picture of the tailwheel. We disassembled everything, cleaned it thoroughly and rebuilt it. Also installed a new main spring from AS and a new tire and tube.

nipp, your tail-wheel cleaned up nicely.
Did you chamfer the trailing edge of the tail-wheel spring that is just above the main tail-wheel leaf spring (spring number 2), like in the below picture. Chamfering the number 2 spring helps prevent the sharp edge of the number 2 spring causing a stress riser in the main (number 1) leaf string.
