Do not become confused between a "Minimum Equipment List" and an "equipment list".
An "equipment list" is merely a listing of the installed equipment in your airplane, it's weight, location, as it affects the Wt/Bal and C.G.
A "Minimum Equipment List" as referred to in 91.213 is a different matter as regards the equipment which MUST be operative for flight.
From the FAA's website: (
http://www.faa.gov/ )
"The rule provides that Part 91 operators of... (small aircraft)... may operate without an approved minimum equipment list provided the inoperative instruments and equipment are not:
Part of the VFR-day type certification instruments and equipment prescribed in the applicable airworthiness regulations under which the aircraft was type certificated; (91.213(d)(2)(i). This would require the pilot to look at the applicable regulations such as CAR 3, Part 23, etc. and the applicable Type Certificate Data Sheets.
Indicated as required on the aircraft’s equipment list or on the Kinds of Operation Equipment List for the kind of flight operation being conducted; (91.213(d)(2)(ii). The equipment list can normally be found with the weight and balance report; and a generic equipment list can be found in the applicable section of your Airplane Flight Manual (AFM) or Pilot Operating Handbook (POH).
Required by FAR Section 91.205 or any other rule of this part for the specific kind of flight operation(day/night VFR, IFR, etc.) being conducted; (91.213(d)(2)(iii). This is usually the first place a pilot or mechanic would look.
Required to be operational by an airworthiness directive, (91.213(d)(2)(iv). This is an area generally overlooked by everyone."
In other words, you do not require a Minimum Equipment List for your aircraft.
