Pancake muffler repair

Post by zero.one.victor »

Does anyone have any experience with WagAero/Aero Fabricators exhaust repairs? Their catalog lists the early 170's pancake mufflers ( p/n 0550290 & 0550290-1) on the repair list, for a price of $400 each. this wouldn't be too bad for an "overhaul" (re-manufacture) like a lot of outfits do for the Hanlon-Wilsons,but it's way too spendy for just a weld-em-up repair like I can do locally.
Or is there anybody else that will overhaul the pancakes? The exhaust outfits I've talked to in the past didn't want anything to do with the flat mufflers.

Looks like nobody's had experience with WagAero/Aero Fabricator exhaust repair,or with anyone else who repairs the pancake mufflers?
I emailed WagAero earlier this week, asking about their pancake muffler repairs. They replied: "If your mufflers have already been welded up,they are not repairable by us." Wow--thanks for nothing. I guess they expect only to repair pristine 55-year-old mufflers--not too many of those around.
