Window latch repairs

Somewhat new to C170 ownership and now in the process of "fixing" the many squawk items on my list. One of which is replacment of the outboard window latch bracket ('54 170B). On earlier posts I read where someone had used "aluminum binding posts" as hinge pins staeing that the low profile heads fit well inside the folded latch mechanism. I can't seem to find such an item after checking the recomended hardware and stationers stores.
Anyone have suggestions as to where/what to use for latch hinge pins? The are available from Cessna but I was hoping for a good sub that I could find locally.

Hello Bentley,

I was the one the repaired my worn window latch hinge pins with aluminum binding posts. I got the idea by just browsing the hardware store isles and hoping something would "jump" out at me. I found the posts in the specialty hardware section. I think any hardware store that carries the Sharon line of fasteners and doodads should have the binding posts in different lengths and diameters. If you can't find them at the hardware store, I would look at office supply stores and supercenters since the binding posts fall into the office supply category. If you can't find them, I'll be glad to pick up a few and send them to you.

OK I will check again. Being Sunday I may have to wait but Home Depot may have something. I hate to be ignorant but what again is the normal function of the "binding posts"? Knowing this maybe I can explain what I am looking for to the sales guy. Otherwise I may browse as you did for a suitable pin or take you up on your offer.
Thanks

Aircraft Spruce sells the complete latch assemble (PN 05-07100) as well as all the parts. The new latch is $224, the replacement pins are about $12. (Page 185 of the latest catalog)

Yes I have a new bracket coming from Aircraft Spruce as the current one is cracked. The rest of my components are in good condition but I need to essentially remove the whole unit to install the outside bracket. May have to order the pins from them too but was hoping to find a good sub.

I found those "binding posts" at Home Depot! They are called Boston fasteners. They have them in different sizes and lengths. You can even use a hack saw and cut off a little if you need to. JD

The "Binding Posts" are an office-supply item. They are normally used to fasten loose-leaf sheets into hardback binders to make a notebook or legal portfolio, when they are not being used for Beechcraft Bonanza/Baron vent-window hinge-fasteners and such.
