In the process of installing a SkyTech generator in my 170A.
Pull hardware removed
Old starter removed
Push button switch is installed
Wires run through firewall per instructions
Shaft was carefully cut off
However, the instructions fail to mention how the new starter gets wired in. I even call them and they said they did have an answer and would need to research it and get back with me.?.?. (not a confidence builder)

So many question is where does the two wires that come from the new push button switch get connected?
Does anyone have a simple schematic for this?

Any help would GREATLY be a appreciated.

Humm I would think most would copy a 172 wiring diagram to install the starter solenoid and wiring but I would have thought you would have an STC covering that packaged in with your new starter.

Toward the end of this installation instruction from B&C is their wiring diagram. I would think your's should be similar. Like Jim said though, the starter contactor and instructions for wiring it should have been included in your Sky-Tec STC.

Edit: Well, In the next entry Mike has shown how much I know about Sky-Tec starters! Zilch. I didn't know they had the solenoid as part of the starter. Here's where further data is available about them online.

Hi Scott,

The STC instructions for the C12ST2 explain exactly how to wire the starter. SkyTec drawing 71001 specifies that the two wires from the push button get connected to the Starter "S" terminal and starter power terminal. Note that the STC does not require a starter relay. The relay is built into the C12ST2 starter. (There is a jumper wire connecting the lugs)

I didn't know Sky-Tec even MADE a generator... and wonder how Scott plans to prevent a huge oil leak in that thing if he removed the starter.

Scott I've since read the install instructions included with your starter and I can see why you were puzzled, whereas the link that Gary supplied, a Sky-tech web page, has comprehensive info on the starter and its install paperwork. Not bad idea to intergrate the solenoid into the starter and put a fuse inline in the starter push button wiring.

Sky-Tec didn't mfg generators or alternators. Starters only. Air Power, a sister company, manufactured alternators and regulators. Both are now owned by Hartzel and are located in Alabama.
