Logo placement
Somone just gave me a set of nice logos for the vertical
fin and doors (I think). The fin logos say "Cessna" and have
the swept graphic with "170" in between. The door ones
are just a wide block lettered "170".
Does anyone have data on the proper placement of these
logos? Or maybe pictures of the logos on an "original"
paint job, preferably on a '54?
The logos I received also came with a full-scale print
out of a Cessna Drawing (Dwg. # 0500018). There is
a note on the drawing saying "Scale print for dimensions"
but it doesn't specify precisely where the logos are to be
applied on the aircraft.

I am restoring a '54 and it had the original paint. I can send you the pictures I took for reference later next week if you want them.
Moody Areo http://www.moodyaero.com/ has vinyl and paint masks. there are several different logo schemes that changed with the year. They have a good catalog.

a dye'd in the wool "original air in the tires" type, I thought
it might be fun to put the "original" logos back onto the
airplane.
Thanks to others who posted & e-mailed however, it looks like
I have a decal set for a '53 model (they apparently changed slightly
from year to year). Since the gesture was so nice (from the
gentleman who gave me the decals), I feel compelled to
pass the torch as it were, and offer the decals no charge to
the 1st '53 170 owner who posts, saying they could use them.
There are (2) white decals and one light blue decal, but I
suppose one could use them to replicate the logo in any
color (there are numerous places that will make you a vinyl graphic/sticker from any picture / graphic you can provide).

(I e-mailed them asking for a catalog).
Another thing I found out with all this is although the paint
job on my '54 looks '54-ish", there were some liberties
taken with the scheme (which is just fine with me....).
With my other airplane, I will do what I can to make it as original
as possible. With this one, I think I'll just pour gas into it and go
fly / enjoy it.

I asked the Moody Aero guys for a catalog. No doubt they'll have
other cool items that my buds at the airport will salivate over....

You ought to get a 1954 Chevrolet to add to your collection to match your plane. When I had my 1949 170A and lived in Mississippi, I restored a 1949 Studebaker for my brother who lived in Memphis. Whenever I would go to Memphis he would leave the Studebaker at the airport for us to use. I used to say I was the only one in modern time to be flying into Memphis International Airport in a 1949 model plane with a 1949 model rent-a-car waiting for me. Untill a couple of years ago I had a 1953 Ford to go along with my current 1953 airplane but sold it in one of my weaker moments, actually just before I got my current plane.

stable. Awhile back, I was offered a stunning '58 Chev step-side
pickup from a guy who lost his job and was moving away. I still
kick myself for not buying it (completely restored & stock, plus
he was asking about 1/2 of what it cost him to restore it!).

Harold - I guess it didn't come up when we met at the convention at ILM,
but I've had many Studebakers over the years. Currently I'm down to a 63 GT Hawk, 64 Avanti and the odd one (?) a 66 Olds Toronado. I'll bet I was the only US Airways pilot in the 90s that drove a Studebaker Lark to work - one time the F/O remarked to me he parked next to a Studebaker in the employee lot, and who in their right mind would own such a lemon! I had fun with him for the next few days...Russ Farris
