Hi all,

This may seam like a silly question but, when looking at the 0-300 Continental engine, which cylinder is what number? I tried looking on the web and I get different answers with opposite numbering patterns depending on where I look and who is making the engine.

Thanks
Jim Collins

On continental engines, cylinder 1 is right rear, 2 is left rear, 3 right center, 4 left center, 5 right front, 6 is left front.

Another way to consider it is the No 1 is directly in front of the copilot and No 2 is directly in front of the pilot. The numbering sequence (on Continental engines) then proceeds forward and skips across the engine so that No. 3 is in the middle right, and No 4 is middle left, No 5 is front/right and No 6 is front/left. Odd numbers on the right and even numbers on the left, and counting from rear to the front.

Thanks Dave & George. That matches most of what I had seen for the Continental's
