I have a leaking Gasolator Drain valve, especially after checking the bowl for water. I want to replace the drain valve with new and the glass bowl gasket seals both top and bottom at the same time, before ordering up the Bartone pipe extensions. The question I have is the parts manual shows Drain Valve 0511199-20 Curtis CCA-7450, and Gasket 0511199-6 (Koehler 2255A). I took a closer look at my drain valve that is in place presently and it looks like a Curtis CCA-1550 , or at least Aircraft Spruce shows a similar valve by that part number? I just want to confirm the correct valve, and or better valve is the CCA-7450, and if there is a souce for the gasket seals that are a better price then those listed on Aircraft Spruce at $39.00 cdn each? I appreciate the feedback

You jumped up a line when reading the Koehler p/n for the gasket. 2255A is the glass, 2215A is the gasket. An alternate p/n for the gasket is 33-199-6. It's less than $3.00 plus shipping here. McFarlane puts out a lot of good information on drain valves here. If the valve body still looks good I'd consider just replacing the seal. McFarlane sells the flat seals for Curtis valves, p/n CACCA1269, here. I've got an oddball Koehler 9000A-1 valve on my gascolator so I can't confirm that CACCA1269 seal fits the CCA-7450 or CCA-1250 valve. McFarlane lists the dimensions so confirm the seal dimensions matches what you are looking for before buying. The McFarlane chart referenced above shows 21 valves with 1/8" NPT threads. It also lists alternate valves to the Curtis CCA-7450 and CCA-1250. Hope this helps!

Sometime ago George, Bruce or others said the gasolator gaskets are the same one that goes on the oil filler cap.

I believe this is the generic $1.98 fuel cap gasket which works perfectly on my gascolator and oil cap and remains soft/pliable (but is not for mogas.) https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... ecfer=8981 The genuine (white) Cessna gasket mentioned becomes brittle-hard after a year.

No need for the flame suit Charlie. The Steve's gascolator is a quality product. Shortly after I bought my 170, I bought a Steve's gascolator on the suggestion of my IA. He was worried that some mechanic (me) would end up dropping the glass bowl of the stock gascolator in short order. He'd seen it happen a number of times. I still have the Steve's unit in my spares box, though, as I can't quite part with my stock one. And I'm very careful handling the glass bowl.

I like the glass (Pyrex actually) for the same reason it was originally-designed. I have a spare glass I often loan out until someone solves their broken glass issue. (Borrower pays Priority Mail both ways.)

Thanks again everyone for the information, I'm going to stay with the pyrex glass bowl for now and new gaskets and valve. I'm going with the bartone pipes and have seen pictures where the gasolator is relocated center, and some pics where it remains slightly right of center which brings it closer to one of the pipe extensions? I will look in the library for information on centering if I'm concerned the valve will weep fuel. Mike

I may have changed my mind and would like to know if anyone has a picture and feedback on installing a Steve's Gasolator SA3-00-B with mounting bracket on a 170 and relocating the Gasolator center between Bartone Pipes? Thanks Mike

I have fitted Steve’s Gasolator and I am very happy with its design and performance . A number of times I have had to drop the “bowl” due to water contamination and dirt. So easy to clean and positive locking . The original bracket for the old glass gasolator was used for fitting the new gasolator .

The original bracket was dead center on the bottom of the fire wall .steves gasolator just bolted straight on . This summer I have had major issues with contaminated fuel due to the fact the fuel supplier had fitted new tanks and keep denying it was his issue .it was to the point where on each preflight I would drop the bowl and clean it. Using the quick drain valve on the gasolator wasn’t good enough to extract all the dirt/rubbish. I have only a iPad and can not post photos but send me your email address I will post them to you .

David, The only issue I have posting pictures saved to the Photo app on my iPad mini is that, as taken with the Camera app, they are too large for this site. In that case, you can email it to yourself and select a size less than 1Mb. From the email, you can save the photo to your iPad. Once that’s done, choose “Upload attachment” below, tap the “Choose File” button then select “Photo Library” and choose the photo, then tap “Add the file”. At that point, I usually move the cursor to the end of the post and tap the “Place inline” button. Example below:
