Could you install a C-145 Accessory Case on an O-300d? I was able to get a newly overhauled O-300D, but I would like to be able to keep my current pull starter setup and I have no need for a vacuum pump. Has anyone else done this? The new motor was overhauled a while ago and I am pulling it apart anyways to check everything. I'm looking at this as a fun project to do with my IA supervising. I will be selling the C-145 core when I am done.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Yes, there are those with three bolts holding the accessory case to the sump, and those with five. Most I’ve seen have five. Other than that, the studs for the starter are different between the models of engines that had inline starters and those that had right angle starters and vacuum pumps. Studs can be replaced to switch between styles of starter. The accessory case on my O-300A originally came from an O-300D.

Besides actually bolting the C-145/0-300-A,B accessory case on, what your actually doing is converting the 0-300-D to a 0-300-C. You will need to make that change legally to the data plate and engine and then buy the Associations STC which makes installing the 0-300-C or D legal.
I guess you know you also need to buy a legal 6 bolt prop, also covered under our STC.

Thanks guys. I guess I will have to take a look at the bolt patterns next time I get out to the hangar. I already found the appropriate 6 bolt prop and purchased the STC for installing the o300d motor....didn’t really think about how changing the accessory case would effect that. Maybe I’ll just stick with the angle starter....I really do like the pull starter though. I’ll let you know what I end up doing and how it turns out.

And now you should be reminded that your old 8-bolt spinner will not fit your new 6-bolt prop. (172 spinners might be in your future, otherwise you're gonna be into custom fabrication of a new backplate to fit your old spinner.) Of course a skull cap will also work.
