1948 Fuel Tank 337/STC
I am restoring a '48 and acquired rag wings to replace the metalized wings. The left wing has had a second tank installed, but didn't come with paperwork. Are folks aware of a fourth tank 337 or STC? Any information appreciated. Thank you

Mine has a 337 Field approval dated about 1990.

Ed, could you send me a copy of your 337? I believe it would be helpful in me obtaining a field approval. Thanking you in advance. My email is melcessna170b@gmail.com. If surface mail, my address is 11765 Tarrynot Lane, Carmel, IN 46033

I too will forward paperwork once I get my approval. My mechanic is fairly confident it won’t be a problem. He too is grateful for the help regarding the 337.

I spent quite some time looking for it and couldn't find it, or I wouldn't have asked for a copy.Ryan Smith wrote:I believe we already have a copy, George. This is the 337 in our library to add a second tank to the left hand side.

Yes Ryan, number 082.
The link I posted will down load the document if one is a TIC170A member, their forum account reflects membership and they are currently logged in to the forum.
This particular 337, unlike so many others, actually has a decent list of the work performed and may be of some help.
We could always use another copy of a different form if another was sent however.

Re: 1948 Fuel Tank 337/STC
I spent several hours looking for the document, absolutely convinced we had it... guess I just kept overlooking it. Thx, Bruce.
Michael, I'm looking at the 337 being discussed and note that the left outboard tank which was installed was PN 0522613... which is actually a right inboard tank that was modified. You will want to address that matter depending upon which tank you have found "already installed".
Does your left wing have two filler caps with one of them safety-wired closed and placarded?

No. It is a left tank reversed just like the STC on file.

Re: 1948 Fuel Tank 337/STC
Michaei, that's not an STC, it's a "field approval" with Block 3 approved by FAA on a Form 337. A Left tank reversed would still have a cap...so I suppose you mean it's a right outboard tank which is reversed, i.e., "mirror image". (Better in my opinion, but not in accordance with the 337 in our library. I doubt if an FAA Inspector who looks at yours will have any trouble with that difference if he's inclined to accept the 337. I just wanted you to see that difference so you could correct your parts-listing in your application.)melcessna wrote:No. It is a left tank reversed just like the STC on file.

Item 79 (which I highlighted...) is a limited STC. SA869NWgahorn wrote:Michaei, that's not an STC, it's a "field approval" with Block 3 approved by FAA on a Form 337. That’s the file I sent Mike.
