Instrument Panel Shock Absorber

Post by dstates »

Does anyone know where I can find a replacement shock absorber for the floating panel? The part number in the 170A parts catalog is 0511059-1.

Never mind.... I was looking at the wrong image in the parts catalog. My serial number is with the other instrument panel page in the parts catalog. The part I need is 0411059-1 which is readily available at Aircraft Spruce.

Thanks!

Does anyone know what the difference is between these 2? Because based on my serial number I believe the one I need is the 04 version and not the 05 that Spruce sells.

The 0511059-1 part number is a typo. Here's a screenshot from the Revision 1 page:

0411059-1 is available at Aircraft Spruce and worked fine on my 170A.

My instrument panel had the Lord J6984-8 shock mounts. Not sure how long they were in the plane before failure (many years, I’m sure) but I replaced them with the much more affordable 0411059-1 replacement (Part #10-06506) from Spruce. One difference between the two was that the Lord ones had brass hardware and did not have any effect on my panel mounted compass. The other (more annoying) difference was that the new ones from Spruce only lasted about 6 months before they started to fail.
