There use to be a web site with a weather map of the US which had color coded dots at airports reporting weather. Low IFR would be purple IFR was red low VFR was orange and VFR was green. If you clicked on an airport the latest reported weather would be displayed. A year or so ago that site was discontinued. I found it very handy for helping to plan long cross country flights. Just wondering what you folks are using now that might be similar. Bill K

ForeFlight has that feature, and you can click on the airport and get the full AWOS report and most any other info about an airport you might want.

SkyVector is a good planning site

Stratus in gets you great weather in the US. I wish we had the same coverage in Canada.

windy.com has more options than any other site I have found and goes out 10 days.

I agree… Windy.com is an excellent (free) wx link that has a surprising number of useful features.

Fly-Q is an application that I use on my I-Pad in conjunction with ADS-B, flight-planning/tracking and all charts, VFR & IFR. It’s a full-featured alternative to Foreflight not owned/controlled by Boeing. (I chose it based upon the recommendation of a fellow Member who had a day-job with Delta and used both apps, (but Fly-Q offered annual subscriptions to CFI’s for only $20 including all charts, and also had an offer to all for lifetime service for $300.)

AVNWX.com is a site I've used for more than 15 years. The reason I started using it is that at the time I was flying MedEvac. Our tones would drop and we were expected to be departing in 5 minutes. Leaves little time to review weather. We had a list of over 300 hospitals we could be called to go to and I needed a method to see weather and a flight path from my location to that hospital and then to a second hospital, in seconds. AVNWX can be driven with the url it is given so I created a Excel sheet that with a click or two would create the URL necessary to show a flight path from my location to the sending hospital and then to the receiving hospital. It worked well for me and others and I got use to how it shows information and have used it ever since. You use what you know. The only thing about it is it can be a pain to use and view on my IPhone cause of the size but as I know how to work it, I have just worked around that limitation.

Here is an interesting video demonstrating the latest developments (Ver 6.0, with no addt’l charge to subscribers) in FLY-Q .
I rec’d a notice from Fly-Q that the new Ver 6.0 was available…and when I opened the app on my I-Pad…it automatically updated. I can use the “settings” menu to select or de-select any features.

FltPlan.com website and companion iPad/iPhone/Android app. Free . Has option for displaying circle/color coded METARS on either platform. Free .

Storm watching with ForeFlight works better than anything else I’ve found. Radar and AWOS combined with the handy measuring tool. When I get the screenshot small enough for the forum to accept the details all go away.
I can easily see that the eye is about 100 miles away from our Cajun buddy Ron and gusts are in the upper 30s now.

Yeah… Ron’s Red Beans ‘n’ Dirty-rice always gives him 30 mph gusts!
