Intake Manifold Hose Install

I’m finishing up he installation of a new cylinder and need to install the intake elbow to the cylinder. Does anyone have any tips or an easy way to install the manifold to elbow hose? I can slip the hose by itself over the manifold, and plan to slip it on the manifold and then pull it back over the elbow. But the hose clamps I have barely fit over the hose and makes it very difficult to slide the hose on the manifold with the clamp. What can I use to make it slippery? Soapy water okay?

Thanks, Doug

Soapy water would be fine. I use DC-4 at work.

WD40 is slippery and eventually dissipates.

Bruce,

Just to pass along info I learned about DC-4. While most use it for its dielectric properties we (lycoming) learned from Champion that they do not recommend DC-4 for their wire harness plug ends and the material compound they use on their harness, when DC-4 is applied it actually makes them swell. So while its makes it slippy at first it could cause swelling on some compounds. That might be ok for some uses, some, maybe not. just wanted to pass that along, my dad who was an A&P all his life used DC-4 on a lot of things to make it slide easier, so I followed suit and now I'm a bit more careful of compatibility on what I'm using it on.

Why spend money on a new clamp or wait for delivery when I have the one listed per the parts manual? Ordering a new one is not going to help. I know I can get it on, but was looking for what lubricant was appropriate to use or what people have used with good luck.

Soapy water worked. Still took some force, but got the job done.
