Sportsman STOL

I have been flying our new 170B this week. New overhaul on the C145, big tires, and the Sportsman STOL kit that I installed. I want to tell you that that kit really makes a heck of a difference. I am very impressed so far. I have also been flying a buddy’s 170A that also has a fresh engine. The difference between wings is very noticeable. Really adds lift early on takeoff, and makes slow flight and approach to stall completely benign. I don’t think it slowed it down, either. I wish I had put the kit on my 180.

Here is my son Masen, who is really the lucky user of this nice 170. Doesn’t he look happy? Damn kids are going to bankrupt me.

Awesome! The Sportsman STOL kit is on my list of to-do one day as well. My ASI barely registers on short final / initial takeoff climbout, so I'm curious if yours even starts moving at all by the time you're flying

You can accomplish that exact same behavior if you just put a piece of masking tape across the entrance to the pitot tube.
