While cleaning my interior metal pieces (microfiber cloth with distilled water), I accidentally wiped off the markings on the placard near the flap handle push button. Does anybody know what it’s supposed to say? I looked through all my photos and can’t find a single one of the flap handle.

The following photos are of my lower flap placard (which I am replacing) and the upper one which has been destroyed. Thanks for the assistance!

Assuming B-model, I’m not sure about the one at the end, but the one in the middle, is included here: download/file.php?id=12272&mode=view. For earlier B-models leave out the 10-degree line.

I don’t want this comment to appear authoritative…but I seem to recall it states “Avoid Slips with Flaps Down” ….and was mounted at mid-handle, not at the end.

This is what Bruce found on a '53. My guess is that the position of the "Avoid Slips" decal changed position depending on model year. In the IPC it is shown on the end of the flap handle.

I believe it’s also (unlikely but) possible that someone may have replaced a placard after viewing the IPC (which is known to contain occasional errors)…. or perhaps assy-line folks in actual practice varied from the specification when placing them mid-handle. The photo Bruce posted and the one I posted above are both from ‘53 models.
(PS: I edited/corrected the wording IAW the photo Bruce posted.) This is a good example of how old, defunct, and lost info can be resourced by this group.

The other flap placard is slightly inaccurate so I will make two new ones and get them installed. Thanks for the help!

I agree that the position of the decal(s) likely changed for the various year models. Here a photo of the flap handle on my '52 B model, which from what I can tell has the original decals (as well as paint).

Thanks again for the replies. Using the information provided, I created new placards for the flap handle using a drawing program on my iPad. Printed onto 4x6 glossy photo paper and stuck a protective covering of packing tape right on top of the image. Cut it out and stuck it on the flap handle with 3M spray glue. Looks pretty good. Not as great as original, imo but I thought it was nice to match the dark red and gray interior colors.

Looking at the photo I took, it became evident that my takeoff trim range needed touch up paint so I did that as well. This annual has been the most fun and complete I’ve ever done. Looking forward to getting back in the air soon!

The Take-Off Range placard of the Trim Wheel brings to mind a check that can be made (and which actually should be confirmed during pre-flight inspections). The elevator should be placed in the streamlined/neutral position and the trim tab on the trailing edge should be streamlined with the elevator when the trim wheel is in the takeoff range.
