Sheet Metal Work and Aircraft Coverings

Good Evening all,

Does anyone have any recommendations for shops in the PNW who do good sheet metal work? I have the baggage door STC and am looking to have it installed, but as a new owner I haven't had the experience to "feel out" the area for shops that specialize in that type of work.

Also, life has taken a somewhat unexpected turn and we are preparing to relocate from Central Oregon to the Tacoma, WA area next month. The search for available hangar space has been quite an unwelcome surprise, with 3+ year wait lists for every airport in the immediate area. This brings me to my next question: Aircraft covers.

As of now we are thinking that the nearest available hangar at a non-astronomical price will put us at least a few hours away from home. Tie-down's in the area are far more available. Can anyone give advice on the efficacy of aircraft covers in coastal areas? I am thinking I would shell out for a set to provide full coverage if I knew they would effectively protect the aircraft from the elements.

Any advice or similar experiences on the matter are appreciated!

Andrew & Michelle

Aviation Consumer has an issue (or two) that Cover (pardon the pun) this subject. https://aviationconsumer.com/accessorie ... nnon-rule/

Even a smaller cabin-cover can protect avionics, interiors from the elements (and prying-eyes). https://aviationconsumer.com/misc/cabin-covers/

You might ask Del-Air for a recommended shop in your area which they perhaps have previously worked with. (Presumed you have the Del Air STC)

I’m based at KPLU. Drop me a line on here and we will connect. I know of some possible hangar space and I have a sheet metal ninja.

Excellent, thanks guys. I was aware of Bruce's covers, having seen mention of them here before, but appreciate the info in the article about weight and material differences. I'm a bit paranoid of the creeping effects of the salty air and UV damage to the paint, but also have read that some covers contribute to paint damage themselves.

Calling Del-Air hadn't crossed my mind. Great idea!
