I need a name of a good Insurance Company, I'm based at French Valley Socal, Hard surface runway, I do may want to land at a dirt or grass strip when going camping.

Some Insurance may prohibit this and some don't care

Any recommendations??

Thanks !

Pete

My old policy was thru Travers (formerly thru AIG),and when I got my renewal paperwork "off-airport exclusion applies" was prominently highlighted. I ended up insuring thru AUA's Vintage program,it cost a bit more but off-airport op's are not excluded. You must be a member of EAA-Vintage Division to get this insurance--that added another $46.
I'd suggest getting several quotes & going with the best DEAL, which might not necesarily be the lowest price.

I changed from Travers to AUA this year. The price difference wasn't significant (AUA was about $20-30 cheaper than Travers). The reason I changed was that AUA came highly recommended by three people I know and one of them was insuring multiple airplanes, an RV-4, C-195, Champ and very shortly a C-120.

The reason I left Travers (they bought out AIG) was due the the long length of time it took them to mail me my paperwork and other service related items. I needed to call them about 3 times over the course of 4-8 weeks to get them to send a proof of insurance paper to my airport where I was tied down. Then I had the same problem about 5 months later when I moved airports in order to get the airplane into a hanger (multiple calls and a 2 month wait to get that simple sheet of paper).

Also, every time I called them to discuss my policy or make the changes I listed above, they "couldn't find my file." Since I called them about 10-15 times over the course of the year that I was insured by them (and AIG before they were bought out) I didn't have a high degree of confidence in them. I was wondering "if they can't find my file when nothing is wrong ... what will happen if I need to make a claim?"

They were always polite on the phone, but never were able to find my file when I called them on the phone. They would just "make a note and get back to me." This note taking and promise to call back only worked out once out of all the times they promised to do this. That's why I had to call back so many times.

So, here's the AUA information:

I just insured my ragwing through Aviation Insurance Resources, 877 AIR-PROS. This is the second plane I have insured through them, and they have found me excellent coverage at a good price both times. They are also able to do EAA and AOPA programs. My EAA membership also got me zero deductable and an number of other benefits. Here is a link to their web site: http://www.air-pros.com/

Good luck! Kevin
