Night Panel Illumination

Post by wa4jr »

Flying at night for the first time a couple of days ago uncovered a problem with the panel illumination...or I should say lack of illumination :( Both of the overhead lights are working when I look up at them, but there is no light projected onto the panel, with the exception semi-round "slivers" of light similar to a very thin cresent moon.

Is there any way to adjust the two overhead light fixtures so that they project an even "flood" of light onto the instrument panel :?:

Yep. Those Grimes "torpedo" lights are fully adjustable and need to be re-aimed. Get a screwdriver and take the overhead panel down and you'll see how it's done. They also have a small knob at their aft end which will refocus the spot. The earlier single-bulb units are also prone to blockage due to the headliner falling into the light-beam. When you take the panel down it should be apparent how to fix it.
