what manuals do I need to install 180 gear legs on my 1948 170? I have the service related articles manual and the timeless classic from the 170 club . ...where can I get what I need?

There is no 170-specific manual (yet, we're working on it.) The official service manual for the airplane is "The Cessna 100 Series Service Manual, 1962 and Prior". Available from both Univair 888/433-5433 and Aircraft Spruce, 877/477-7823.

The McCurtain manuals are out of date. Have there been enough revisions to make it worth buying manuals from Cessna?

Russ-

Search "C-180 and Gear". Scroll down to "C-180 Gear".

A guy in Canada sells the STC to do it.

What about the legs themselves? Strictly salvage, or do people buy new ones from Cessna?

DaveF,
getting a set of C-180 gear legs is a sort of dealers choice. Individual seller---Salvage Yard--- Cessna--- or XP Mods.If you select Cessna or XP Mods, Hold your breath when seeing the price! XP Mods sells a Titanium gear that is very pricey, but they may possibly have some stock gears on hand.

The STC for the 180/185 gear conversion is owned/sold by our former member:

FYI- As most people have already heard XP Mods is defunct. The last price I heard was over $4000 for a new set and that was a couple years ago. A used set with a NDT inspection already completed should be around $2000.

If anyone happens to be interested in C-180 legs, I posted a set of them for sale in the TIC170A "Trademart" forum on 14 Oct 09.
