I have a 1948 170 N4224V sn18580 that I'm repairing/restoring. The left I/B aileron hinge-rib assembly (per parts) book fig 4 item 67 , has two cracks reaching almost into the radius of the hinge arms.(one crack on each arm) of the one I/B rib assembly. My question is, Is there an approved Cessna repair for making a doubler or replacing the aileron hinge arms and riveting new ones to the rib, or do I have to spend the $1200.00 (internet quick search price) for the part? Oh I was reading the flap repair discussion in forums and I have not been able to find a part number for a flap return spring in the parts book either! Thanks Mike Melvin

That PN 0422200-2 might be repaired using the structual repairs suggested in Section 19 (Sturctural repairs), Fig. 19-8 of the Cessna 100 Series Service Manual, 1962 and prior. According to that section, the cracks must be stop-drilled, and an insert/double can then be installed.
You might also keep in mind that this part is probably common to the Cessna 120/140 airplane as well, if you're shopping salvage yards.
