Another 170 newbie question:

Is the 52 170B TC'ed to be IFR certified? Mine appears to have all the gadgetry needed to "certify". Any special hoops or just call the avionics shop and tell them to certify it? During the last few annuals, the mechanic noted "IFR Certification out of date, owner notified" in the notes, which would imply that it is just a matter of getting it re-certified.

Not planning to do much cloud work, but I do like to file IFR when I am on trips.

The 170 may be legally flown IFR if properly equipped. I suggest you read 91.411, 91.413, 91.205.
