cabin heat cable and knob

Ok, so I was able to pick up the cabin air valve assembly for the firewall from Mr. George Horn and an association donation. Now my next question is, where the heck to do you run the heater cable to on the dash for the control of the valve?? I have one knob that seems to be "inactive" right now. second one from the right if I remember correctly, to the right of the mixture knob. Is that where it's suppose to go? It's getting colder and I'm looking forward to some heat but I'd like to not cut any new holes and keep it original...this is the '50 170A instrument panel. Any help would be great!

Well, the original sequence of knobs (excluding the throttle) from left to right was... Mixture, unused knob, Carb Heat, Parking Brake (deactivated, I hope), Cabin Heat, Starter. So, the second knob from the right is your Cabin heat. If that has been resused for something else, you could always use the "Unused" spot. All that is is a knob held on with a screw. Reach up under the panel and you should not feel anything attached to it.

There were two groups of three knobs each...one group of three was to the left of the throttle and the second group of three were to the right of the throttle. The MIDDLE knob of each group of three were optionally used for CABIN AIR (rarely installed) and CABIN HEAT (Front, according to Cessna DWG 0511105, or Front/Rear, according to Cessna DWG 0511102.) Your aircraft's original equipment list should indicate which system was installed at the factory.
