Member Earl Estabrooks (TX) has detailed info on overhauling and rebuilding this vacuum system and parts. He's in the Directory. (I'd give you the info directly, but it's all at my home and I'm out of town, otherwise email me and when I get home I'll find the info and send it to you. But the basic info is: Pump parts are a convenience-problem and must be scrounged/owner-produced or robbed from similar pumps, and no one will do the work for you...you must do it yourself. I doubt you'll find a pulley except in the junk-yards.)

Unasked-for advice/commentary: I don't quite see the attraction to complicating our lives by having vacuum pumps on a 170 when venturi's do such a fine, original job and never fail. I'd suggest that when one tires of dealing with failure-prone vacuum pumps, one consider restoring the airplane to venturi's. Just a personal opinion.

Burro George,

I will look him up in the directory. I have found some one who says they will overhaul the pump for $375. Victor Harris

Gibsonville, NC 27249 USA

Tele- 800-822-3200 or 336-449-5054

Fax- 336-449-5461

All I need is a core. Aviall still lists one of the pulleys for a mear 2800 dollars 8O

I have been working my way through the bone yards and I have called Airborne.

I have had no problems with these Vac pumps and before the *** Governor from MO got killed you could buy parts for the STC from AVIALL now Airborne can't even say dry air pump

If anyone comes up with an Idea let me know.

Thanks

George, George, George! You're misleading the voters again! Guess N4387B is up to about 20yrs without having it's failure prone vacuum pump touched. If we go back into the vacuum pump debates, I'm just going to search, copy, & paste.

Remember the hand crank ice cream makers my dad made me churn all my growing up days? That ice cream maker never failed, but for some reason my dad changed to an electric one when I left home. I just don't quite see the attraction to complicating our lives by having electric ice cream makers when the hand cranks do such a fine, original job, never fail, and the instruments are all up to speed and working when the engine is turned on.

Don't need instruments on the ground. If it's so bad that I need instruments on the ground in a single engined airplane...I'm headed for the beer joint in the jeep.
