Would Oil Analysis Be Likely to Detect Unsafe Bearing Wear?

Dear Fellow Members:
In another thread, Bruce Fenstermacher mentioned that when he removed the rod bearing cap to visually inspect the bearings, they were almost worn through to the babbitt. My question is, would oil analysis, if it had been done consistently with each oil change over a long period of time, detect this type of abnormal wear? If so, does anyone know which element(s) would show up outside of the normal range?
Thanks,
Curt - N4288V
