Colorado Northwestern Community College Aviation Maintenance Department is considering installing a Continental TSIO-360 in a 170B airframe. They have a 170B minus the FWF and a TSIO-360 ready to go.
Does anyone know of any existing installations or STCs to help as a basis for approval?

From what I found (I haven't given them a call yet) is that XP Mods STC only covers the IO-360 and not the TSIO-360. But then again, a 337 amending an STC may be easier to get through then going it alone without the STC.

If I remember correctly Tom told me he had a DER report to go with his STC that made getting a field approval possible for the TSIO-360.

Just curious, what are they going to do with it once they're finished?

Attempt to capture the World Altitude Record for a Cessna 170.

From what I understand, they plan on selling it once completed. The department head has suggested taking it up to Alaska to sell.
I don't think they will put it into their flight training program as they do the tailwheel training in a Citabria. However, it would make one hell of a plane for up here where density altitudes frequently go over 8K during the summer.

If it all works out and they decide to sell let me know. I've been in the market for a souped-up 170 for a little while.
If you want, you could give dept. head my email....

I wouldn't expect it to happen very soon. They are slowly rebuilding a Bonanza but the 170 may be the next in line. It could be several years before completion.
I'll post the information here when it's ready to go.
