Baggage Door

I will be requesting the 337 for the baggage door shortly from headquarters, but does anyone know which 172 doors will work? I know Cessna changed them several times, so am assuming one from a non-omni vision (no rear window) 172 is the one I want. I also assume the cargo door frame from the same stock 172 will work? Any approximate sizes of the door so I can compare doors?

Thanks!

I don't know of anyone getting a field approval on a baggage door since there is a STC for it now. Del-Air got the STC for putting in a early Cessna 172, 182 or 180 door in a 170. Lance

It's been some time but I inquired how much Harry's baggage door STC was and it seemed very reasonable as I recall. That is the way I'd go anyway.

I just went through this process with my 53. I used a door and frame assy from a very early model 175 (same as an early model 172). Installation was pretty straight forward. I was able to get a 337 approval for this in 2006. It took a loooong time. Being a cheap engineer and having the plane down for a ground up, I had the luxury of time. I e-mailed some info to you for reference. Good luck!

DelAir has the STC that you need and the drawings to go with it. They worked well for me and they cost $200 in '03.

Thanks, everybody!
George, I appreciate the information you sent and will use the data, but I talked to Harry at Del-Air and purchased his STC, still for $200. Figure the lack of hassle with the FSDO is probably worth the price. I have a wrecked 1980 172 carcass that still has the frame and I have a door, so it looks like that will work, according to Harry.
