Where can I find the minimum dimensions for this prop? My AME is insisting it be measured but I don't really want to send it out to a shop. Isn't this something that can be done in the field? I have searched the site but can not find the full table of correct dimensions.

Your best bet is to give a prop overhauler a call to get the min dimensions at each station along the prop. Try calling Sensenich propellor service to see if they would give you what you are looking for, they are pretty friendly folk, at least they were when I went there to repitch my prop.

Why does you AME want to measure the prop? Do you have a static rpm issue? If he wants you to send the prop out then he must have the data to reject it, henceforth min prop dimensions. If I told a customer that his or her prop had to go out for overhaul I would know why or at least offer a reason as to why. Also go to the faa website, get the type certificate for the model propellor, it will give you the min and max diameter

Vic is right on target. The McCauley propeller overhaul manual will also provide exact specifications for measuring the prop.
Most inspectors question props only if they suspect a prop has been shortened excessively. The aircraft type certificate specifies the prop diameter to be not over 76" nor under 74.5". If that specification is met, and if the prop hasn't been polished too thin ...( is that perhaps your inspector's suspicion? If so, then the blade can be measured in situ... no need to remove it. But if he needs it removed to check for corrosion at the flange, etc., that's another matter...) Otherwise, ask him to be specific as to what his concerns are. Let us know the outcome.

No static RPM problems and I had the prop off a couple of years ago and inspected for corrosion, etc. We also replaced the prop bolts. I suspect he thinks due to it's age it may have been polished too thin.

I can provide the blade dimension specifications when I return home in a few days, but otherwise any prop shop should be able to fax you a copy. email or PM me if you want me to fax a copy to you.

I measured the prop today and it is well within the limits outlined in the McCauley manual. It's only about 1/4" over the min. diameter though. Think I'll start looking for an 80" prop since I operate on floats most of the time. Thanks for all the help.
