Classic 170: What kind of autopilot did your airplane have in it? If it's the Century 1, maybe you can put me in touch with the person who bought the fuselage. I'd be interested in getting the whole set-up from them.
Thanks,

Sounds like AIG generally has best rates. Anyone have the 800 number for them? Looked on their website and couldn't find anything on aircraft.

Go to page 4 of the Lounge, subject Insurance - all of the numbers and names are listed there.

INSURANCE

Post by n3575d »

Avemco quoted $1125. to renew coverage for my 56 170B. The hull is insured for $45,000. I called AIG and was quoted $1020 but for a max value of $38,000 pending a convoluted assesment procedure for any coverage over that amount. I'm 62,retired airline,20,000TT,500 170 time,no claims. AIG did not seem that interested in my 170 Club affiliation.Renewed with Avemco. Pete

Rudy,
Your Avemco premium is exactly the same as last year?? They raised mine from $1800 to $2100 (with $35K hull) because "classic airplane parts prices are way up" and "we are very sorry" (but take it or leave it)........ At this point I'm thinking of leaving it and self insuring. With these Alaskan sized premiums I could have saved almost enough for a Major overhaul in the last 5 years.

Bruce, it must be the Alaska location- that is a steep hit !
Have you tried AIG for a quote ?

I just got my renewal quote from AIG and an off airport exclusion clause was highlighted at the top of the paper. I called them to ask if this was something new and they said that it was. They said that the club now has a new underwriter and this clause is a restriction. I asked if you are limited to FAA approved fields and they said no; as long as the airport is maintained as a runway you can use it. I asked the salesperson to confirm that opinion with her supervisor which she did. Last night when I returned home there was a message on my answering service from AIG. They asked me to call as soon as possible because the information which I had been given earlier was incorrect. They said only FAA approved fields were permitted. I plan to call back today.

I know this is an older topic, but I'd like to know the outcome...

No matter which agency you use to quote your insurance, insist that you be given all of the quotes that they received from the actual insurance companies. You should decide where to place your insurance. If your agent didn't check with all of the companies, or won't tell you the germane aspects of each quote, change agents. There's far more to the insurance decision than just the premium.

AIG confirmed yesterday that only FAA approved fields are covered. Since many FAA approved fields are not charted, a field with a windsock with several planes tied down that does not show on the chart, may or may not be FAA approved. Conversely, a field that has been decertified often stays on the chart for a long time.

If some of you fearless aviators think you're having insurance acquisition problems now, wait 'til your eightieth (80th) birthday. It gets really interesting.
