Anybody have any idea what the more popular conversions are going for these days for a 170B? (Minimum 180 hp and a constant speed prop) Also for the conversion are new cowlings required? Will the conversion engine fit under the same cowling?
Thanks

Don't know the prices, but as for the cowlings.. depends on the engines. The Cont. IO-360 and the Franklin/PZL 220 will fit without mods to the cowling. The 180hp Lyc will require you to add "blisters" to the top/front of the cowling to allow clearance or the cylinders.

Conversions are expensive. Depending on who does the majority of the work, my experience says 30 grand as a minimum. If all the work is farmed out, probably much more.
What it really boils down to is that if you want a high performance C-170
it is worth it. If you just want more power, get a C-180 or whatever.
To satisfy yourself, just sit down and list the expensive stuff.
