Jack Pad/Step

Someone in the association was advertising a combination jackpad/step, but I can't find the thread. If anyone knows the person or the thread would you please post it here?

Here is a picture of Larry's removable step which SHOULD NOT be used as a jack point. They work on any Cessna spring steel gear leg, will not damage the paint, and do not slip. I paid $80.00 each plus $12.00 shipping in May, 2007. Choice of colors, red or black.

$80 !!! Yikes. Where can I get the Chinese version?

The Chinese version has lead in the paint and you'll get birth defects if you chew on it. These hold 250 pounds without a grunt. You get what you pay for and I don't want to fall off the wing with the fuel hose still in the tank. $80 is cheap insurance and they will last several lifetimes.

I bought one, it works great as a step, but not so well as a jackpad. It slips up the gear leg when the jack pushes up on it and cannot be depended on to stay in position. It is excellent in the step capacity.
When off-station I use it where the ladders are too short or too big to get close enough to the airplane. It's also been handy for cleaning the windscreen. It puts me in just the right position for cleaning the windscreen. It is also quite a bit cheaper than the STC for the more permanent step.
It's small enough that I keep it in the small box with my extra quart of oil, gloves, fuel dip stick, fuel strainer and windscreen cleaner.
Not sure if I'd buy it again due to the price. I rationalized the price by assuming it really would work as a jack pad and I would not have to buy a seperate $65 jack pad from Aircraft Spruce. But now it looks like I'll have to pony up the extra money for the "real" jack pad too. I'm glad I have it, but had I known it was woefully inadequate as a jackpad ... well, probably not.

I did not know/hear of it being promoted as a jack-pad. I would not recommend it for anything other than as a step.
For the cost's of mfr'g ... I doubt anyone who isn't already equipped/talented as a welder would be able to make one any cheaper. My only disappointment is it's made of steel and therefore is much heavier than I'd like. (I'd prefer aluminum.)

I bought one of these. I think it is ok, however the one I have isn't padded enough and I'm afraid I'll damage the paint on the gear legs.

I keep it in my tool kit in the plane, but I still like the two pieces of 2X4 and a big C-Clamp when I work in the hanger.

To protect the gear leg paint, line the jack pad with a piece of leather.
