The International Cessna^® 170 Association

I'm in dire need of a Left aileron for a '48 170. The one I have is damaged. It has damage to the leading edge. I need to find another to replace it or I need to have it rebuilt and I'm looking for options. I've read on the site that Williams in Indiana is good, but I'd rather not shell out that much money if there's another option. Any help would be appreciated.

Try JW Duff Aircraft in Denver. He's got several, or did have a month ago or so. Also, I believe the Cessna 140 used the same aileron (same part number), so you might try their association website.

The 100 series ailerons are basically the same. The only differences I know of is that the sweep-up of the trailing edge at the tip was increased with the 170B versus straight 170 and A, because the wing washout is greater with the B, although they have the same PN#. But there is no structural difference The amount of balance weight is different on the later and faster models, but again, the PN# is the same. If you purchased a unit that was removed from a 182 you may have to remove weight to balance, and the trailing edge sweep-up may be higher than the wing tip.
For used, your best bet is probably an aileron from a 150; they also have a 1 degree washout, so it'll fair with the wing tip. The 140 may work as well, I've never rebuilt one.

Del...I think you're confusing things a bit... The 170 is a RAGWING and uses a totally different type of aileron than the 170 A and B.
