As one of the people said if we stuck to the 12 years half the airplanes would need an ovehaul. I suspect that some of that is "CYA" from the manufactures. I agree that with good compression and oil consumption you have a good safe engine even if you go past the TBO hours. My point was that when buying you have to consider the price of the airplane based on the facts and almost 1600 hours is a high time engine in my book. Mine has 1200 hours since overhaul and it flew only minumium hours in the last 10 years so I am watching it VERY close and will do a top or a major overhaul at the first signs of trouble.
