I need help! The left magneto on my 1950 170A just died, and I would love any advice on where to get a new one or send mine to be repaired.

Thank you very much and take care,

It would depend what mags you have aready and what condition your good mag is.

If you have Bendix S21 series mags they are still popular with parts and service available at many places as well as exchanges. If you have older model Bendix then it gets a little more difficult.

In either case but specially if you have older style mags and or the other mag is in bad shape you might want to consider changing over to new Slick mags.

This is what I did for my 170 and my Cub and believe me I'm no one to through money at my airplane when I can rebuild something.

You should be able to get a pair of Slicks, a new harness and a set of plugs with your mags and old harness for a core and it cost about $1400 US.

Several dealers in the US sell Slicks. I've been happy with my purchase from A.E.R.O. a parts supplier and also from Mattictuck and engine overhauler now owned my TCM.

I believe either of these companies will also sell rebuilt Bendix S21 series mags with your old one in exchange.
