Propeller control valve

With the recent discussion on the O-300-B hydraulically controlled prop, I thought some of you might be interested in seeing what the valve looked like. Here are some pictures of the prop control valve on an O-300-B.

It appears that the end of the control rod has been cut off. Can someone verify this? Also what is the correct position of the valve? It seems to me that it should be located between the two steel dowel pins (rather than at the six o'clock position as pictured). But if the lever is between the dowel pins it appears that no oil would flow no matter where in the arc the lever was.
