The International Cessna^® 170 Association

Judging from members who are using the McCauley 80" prop with the Kenmore STC, most seem to prefer the 8043. I'm hearing from Kenmore that they can't get the 43 pitch prop from McCauley as they don't manufacture them. Did all you guys who recommend the 8043 on the forum repitch an 8040 or 8042?

I bought my STC from Kenmore and purchased my prop new from AC propeller in Seattle. At the time I purchased the prop, McCauley had all three pitches available. The difference was the Price. I purchased the 8042 because it was the cheapest and if I wanted to re-pitch it, it was only one step in each direction. Since installing it I have not had a strong reason to re-pitch it. AC prop agreed to re-pitch it if I purchased it from them and I did not like the pitch. Every engine will run a little different with a given prop on the engine and you need to be sure that you have a good tach checker to confirm what your real RPM is that you seen in static run up, Take off and flight.

Metal Master - what is your cruise speed with the 8042?

I got the 8042 and am very pleased with the results. On floats the aircraft gets on the step a lot faster and climbs better. I don't think I have sacrificed more than 2-3 knots of cruise but the 7647 seaplane prop I removed was only 74.25" long so I gained a bit more than 4" of length. I can reach the redline with full thottle and slight nose down attitude so I have to keep my eye on the tach. All in all - well worth the cost. It's a much better seaplane prop than the 7647 in my opinion.
