Engine Primer

Just an interesting note. Ordered some new o-rings recently and went to put them in today. Had a heck of a time getting the plunger out of the housing. Not too suprising as it has been more than 58 years since it was put together.
When I did get it apart, I found the plunger had two leather seals - not an o-ring in sight. Our hardware store has leather pump seals, but nothing as small as the primer. I soaked the leather in oil for a while and put everything back together.
Anybody else ever see a primer with leather seals? My local service/inspector said he's never seen one and he's been in the business for nearly 30 years.
Guess I may replace the whole primer if it still tends to leak, and it probably will. 8)

Yes...mine had leather seals I have a '50 C 170A and it was leaking a little. IA took it apart and soaked in the fuel lub I think and got it to seal.
