Seat back broke

My seat back snapped off as i was turning on to the runway. If it had happened 15 seconds later i would not be around to talk about it! I was flat on my back with the yoke in my lap! So i am in need of a new seat back frame. How can I tell if mine is original or not? I took the passenger side apart and it is like new. Does anyone have an idea on how to find a replacement? It is for a 1952 b model.

I have a seat frame that can be restored and your uphostery applied to it. It's also possible your present seat can be repaired. There are numerous 170's that have been converted to later Cessna model seats and doubtless original seats are available.
If you have a IPC (Illustrated Parts Catalog) you can look at the illustration of a seat and compare your seat to it.
Or you can post a picture so we can help identify your failed seat. IN FACT please post a picture so we can see the seat and the area of failure. This is a serious safety hazard which has prompted AD notes on certain aircraft models. FAA issued such an AD previously and is currently a point of discussion between us and them.

that sounds good george...my email is jeff@silkerphoto.com if you can email me about how much you want for the frame and how we can get it coming i will get you some photos on my next trip to the hanger. This is a case of a very poor repair on the seat frame. i had no idea it had ever been fixed until it broke and i took the upholstery off to find a poor weld job...with no reinforcement added. As always thanks for your help.
