The International Cessna^® 170 Association

My Plexiglas instrument panel plate is cracked (P/N 0513043, Fig 42A-32) on my 1955 170B. So far I have not been able to locate a new one. However, I have found a shop that can make one if I had an example to go by. Since I do not want to take my panel apart, I am hoping to find another cracked or worn out one I can use for making the new one. Any leads would be appreciated.

Joy Warren of the cessna 120/140 Club sells panel overlays for the 1947 & 48 140 & 140A,both original & customized. Originals are $40,custom are $55 as of about a year & a half ago.She advertises in the 120/140 Club newsletter, so I guess it's kosher to post her phone number---248-698-3431. I had her email address at one time but of course I can't find it now. You might check out their club's website ( http://www.cessna120-140.org ),there might be more info there?

she made two for me. The first one I gave her bad info and had to get her to do another. If you want to use mine for measurement you can If I can find it. Call her or try the email. She did a fine job on mine.

The phone number and email address for Joy Warren no longer work. I did speak to her +/- 2 years ago and she was in the process of moving. If I remember correctly a shopping center had bought out her property..... I have not been able to locate her since then. Will try searching the 120/140 website and internet again. Last time I had no luck. If anyone has a current phone number or address please let me know.

Good news....Sad news..... On the 120-140 forum site I found a lead for the plexiglass instrument panel plate. The good news the fabricator makes them for 170, 170A, and 170B. The sad news he does not make them for the 1955 170B model serial numbers. For those of you needing a new part, the Fabricators name is Cecil Neal, 913-831-1465 (H). You can check out his work on http://www.cessna120-140.org/classified/plexpanel.htm I plan to call him and see if he can give me a further lead.

In the meantime, if anyone has a worn out or cracked part I can borrow to make a new template let me know

Seriously, can anyone imagine that sorry panel being used for an actual research plane at NASA?
Go to the website, look at one of the larger versions of this picture
and someone please tell me, what that little thingy is in the bottom
center of the panel that looks like a battery solenoid with crinkle radio paint on it? (Miles?)
And the dangling wire that makes that sharp turn at the bottom of the panel.... I don't
think THAT is airworthy!

That might be a NASA photo, but the Bell X-1 was a US Air Force project in 1947. NASA was created in 1958 from the old NACA. I know George appreciates accuracy!

Guess Ole Chuck Yeager was convinced it was airworthy enough to break the sound barrier. I wouldn't want my airplane to look that "experimental".

That's all I need for Jim to make his airplane prettier. I'd like to think I could give him a run for it but I'm plumb broke after Branson and I didn't even gamble. Were going to have to find somebody to wrestle that best Modified award away next year in Deluth.

Thanks for the info on Joy. Her email address works and I did get a response. She still charges $55 for the panel, but needs a pattern to work from for the Cessna 170's. Your offered to let me use your old one, but I don't believe it will work. My plane is a late model 1955 B. The panel plate is different then your older model (unless you have a new plane).

It looks like some sort of pressure regulator probabley for cabin pressurization. The airplane carried twelve nitrogen spheres for fuel and cabin pressurization.

Russ, actually the X-1 was developed as part of a cooperative program initiated in 1944 by the National Advisory Committee for
Aeronautics (NACA) and the U.S. Army Air Forces (later the U.S. Air Force) to develop special manned transonic and
supersonic research aircraft.
