Tailwheel bracket

Anyone know if the 170B tailwheel bracket Cessna PN 0512000-75 (Birddog part number 0642140-3) and O1A part number 0642150-10 are interchangable. They seem to be exactly alike except the -3 has a notch at the trailing edge for the u-bolt.

Air Repair thinks the -10 is a "heavy duty" 3 spring bracket. The -3 is a 4 spring bracket.

Elimination of the notch would eliminate cracking where the notch has been machined.

They are very similar, but the -10 matches with the 0642152 spring retainer channel (instead of the 0642136 channel which mates with the -3 bracket. The -3 has the cutout to use the longer 0642136 channel, which accepts the U-bolt and the standard 0642130 stiffener.) The shorter 0642152 channel uses a different stiffener PN 0642150-1, and are the parts used with the -10 bracket.

They both use 4 springs, but the springs are different part numbers depending upon which bracket is used. The -3 bracket uses PN's 0642101, 0642102, 0642103 and 0642104 springs. The -10 uses 0642157, 0642158, 0642159 and 0642160 springs.

BOLD PN's should be exact exchanges with the 170B and the Cessna Service Kit. The O1Birddog PN's are in regular type and must be used as a group. You may download the association's version of the service bulletin at the Members page:
