The gentleman that installs my floats coats all exposed threads, turn-buckle holes, etc. with this brush on chemical that dries quickly to a hard waxy consistency. It looks like rubber cement as it is brushed on, both in consistency and color. It retains it's caramel color when dry but can be rubbed or wire brushed off just as if it were melted candle wax. It's not in it's original container as he got it from bulk many years ago. He says it is called peralcatone, but a google search finds only one vague reference to such a name even though the hit does describe a similar material, but the google reference is to a book that talks about the substance and not a reference to the actual product.
If anyone has any experience with this or a similar product, please let me know the name of the product and where I might be able to purchase it. Thanks!

Boeshield is sort of like what you're describing. It dries waxy, though softer than the coating you described. It's available in liquid and aerosol, pretty much everywhere. http://www.boeshield.com/index.htm
