Javelin Aux Tank with Selkirk Extended Baggage

Well, it looks like I might be a 170 owner soon. Made the offer and now waiting on the annual which should be completed in early December. I can't tell you how excited I am! Of course I don't want to pass on N-numbers or pictures until the deal is closed. But things are looking way promising. So here is a quick question I have.

Does anyone here have the Javelin Aux Fuel Tank behind the rear seats as well as a Selkirk (or other) extended baggage mod? I spoke with Selkirk and they aren't positive that the two are compatible. I cannot see why they wouldn't be. When inspected I noticed the Javelin tank sits fore of the bulkhead whereas the extended baggage insert is completely aft of that bulkhead.

Thanks. And as soon as things are finalized I will send some pictures and specs and probably blog our winter flight from the PNW to Alaska.

Cheers,

Jaime

I have the Selkirk extended baggage mod, and a javelin aux tank in my 52 170B.
The only issue that we encountered was the drain line, we installed the aft baggage extension first, then the aux tank,
but had to pull the extended floor back up to run the fuel drain line , aft under the floor, not really a big deal.

I am very pleased with the Selkirk extended baggage mod AND the javelin aux tank.

Good luck on your new ship !

John

John, What kind of weight can you put in the extended baggage? I have a javelin tank, and would be interested in weights, and what kind of W&B issues you might have. Which engine do you have? Thank you , Jon

I have an O-300D engine, my empty weight is 1385lbs, arm is 39.5. :)

I can put 2 guys @ 200lbs each up front, plus130lbs in standard baggage area plus 50lbs
in aft baggage area. The arm is like 45.5 That is with zero fuel in aux tank. :)
Therefore with full wing tanks I am good for 3 pass .
I use 110lbs for full aux fuel so if i fill the aux tank, my total baggage goes from 180lbs to 70 lbs.

If I recall the Javelin aux tank system is approx 24lbs, and the Selkirk extended baggage kit was 11lbs.
