availability of an 0360 STC for the ragwing

Post by pilot1 »

Hi fellows, I wonder if anyone has heard of an STC for puting an 0360 in a ragwing. I know that there is a stc for the 170A and B but does it include the 170 ragwing. regards P1

There is two articles in the 170 timeless classic book ( available from the assc. ) on a fellas that put a io 0360 cont in a rag wing, so I imagine it can be done. The tough part would be the field approval as the installations that were done were one time stc only. what I would like to some day is to put a 172 superhawk conversion ( 180 hp fixed pitch ) on a ragwing, the 0 360 lyc is one of my favorite engines, grrr baby grrr.

Thanks Vic . I have been looking in the faa web site and have found an stc for a 0340, 170 hp that covers all 170s fitted in the 60's and a number of stcs for the A and b 170's. Could the faa have meant the A model as the ragwing? ( Wishful thinking and probaly not). I'm in Australia but your stc are recognised here. I have access to a cheap low hour 0360 and an engineer friend who will signe it off if I can get the STC like you say vroom! vroom!

Keep in mind that there is a difference between the Lycoming O-360 engine.... and the TCM (Continental) IO-360 engine.

The Lycoming is a FOUR -cylinder 360 cu. in. engine that generates about 180 hp, and the Continental IO-360 is a fuel injected SIX cylinder engine that develops about 210 hp (or less if de-rated for specialized purposes.)

Very different engines and very different STC situation.

I ment the lycoming 0360, 180 hp. Not the cont IO 360. If I wanted that kind of H.P I would have went for a c180 The current engine is OK but lacks a bit on realy hot summer days
with a load. Some times have to look for that thermal to get some good hight and a couple of extra knots would be nice too. hope that narrows the STC hunt down a little bit
